First Release of the U.S. National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) |
On October 7, 2005, various U.S. government agencies announced the first release of the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) Version 0.1. NIEM "stablishes a single standard XML foundation for exchanging information between DHS, DOJ, and supporting domains, such as Justice, Emergency Management, and Intelligence."via xml.coverpages.org |

Microsoft Office XML |
Microsoft recently released (under license) the documentation for the new XML formats used by Microsoft Office 2003. This is why I think there has not been much uptake on it so far. |

Structured Document Validator |
The Structured Document Validator implements a framework I developed as part of my Master's thesis which defines a generalized method for validating both the structure and content of structured documents. Any data format that can be deterministically divided into tags and data is classed as a structured document. This definition applies to a wide array of data formats, including SGML, XML, Java properties files, and CSV files. The application performs validations based on user-defined Structured Document Definitions (SDDs) that are written using the Structured Document Definition Language. |

xlSQL - JDBC driver for XLS and CSV |
a JDBC Driver for Excel ( CSV, XML and other ) document data sources. Documents can be read and written with SQL as if they were tables in a database. In the case of Excel, xlSQL maps a directory with Excel files to a database, workbooks to schemas, and sheets to tables. These tables can be queried with the full SELECT syntax of either the HSQLDB or MySQL (more to follow) SQL dialect. Native xlSQL is a rich subset of SQL for creating, altering and populating documents ( spreadsheets ). The xlSQL Yn codebase, although alpha, has been taken into production at numerous sites worldwide. xlSQL has proven to be a very stable read-write SQL Excel JDBC Driver. Continuous development efforts are aimed to explore the limits of the XLS fileformat for storing relational data and to support other document formats as CSV and XML. |
