PDF/A

2005-08-13

This has been around for awhile, but I had not heard of it: there is a flavor of PDF called PDF/A that is being standardized for permanent archival storage of electronic documents. The work is being done by the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM).

The standard is due to be released in September 2005 as ISO 19005-1, though appears to be available here now.

Discovered via a ComputerWorld article on The 100-Year Archive Dilemma. I wonder if the part about Washington state paying Microsoft a million dollars to create a new "open" format is true?
