The online product runs on a variety of platforms--Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.1, the Macintosh, and UNIX.
Most of the graphics file formats we describe in originated on a particular platform for use in a particular application--for example, MacPaint on the Macintosh. Despite their origins, most files can be converted readily to other platforms and can be used with other applications, as we describe later in this book. There are a few issues that you need to be aware of, though, having to do with the platform on which you are working or the platform on which a particular graphics file was developed. These issues are summarized in Chapter 6.
