Microsoft announced the beta 2 of the Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats for MSOfficeXP and MSOffice2003.
This is a great move of Microsoft's part. This will certainly help spur the adoption of the MSOfficeXML formats.
There is a risk that this could backfire for Microsoft: a major reason to upgrade is support for the new formats. If the converter works well enough, a lot of customers may decide not to upgrade.
One thing that isn't there is support for WordPad. I wonder if that is going to be forthcoming? I don't have MSOffice licenses for my machines at home, but I would still like to be able to view MSOfficeXML files.
