Adobe Mars: a counter-strike against Microsoft's XPS |
Adobe announced a new file format, code-named "Mars" an XML friendly representation of PDF documents. The Mars file format incorporates additional standards such as SVG, PNG, JPG, JPG2000, OpenType, Xpath and XML into a ZIP-based document container. |

Adobe to Release PDF for Industry Standardization |
Adobe (in partnership with AIIM) is submitting the full PDF 1.7 format to the ISO. It is an important move to counter Microsoft XPS, but PDF/A is already in the works at ISO and is more important for digital preservation.
